Tata Safari, Harrier Score 5-Star Crash Test Rating In Bharat NCAP Test

Indian Government’s Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) has recently conducted its first round crash test ratings. Now, the very first crash test results have been announced, and the Tata Harrier and Safari are the first models tested by BNCAP. Following the GNCAP, both Tata SUVs have secured a 5-star crash test rating in BNCAP.

The Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs have secured 30.82 points out of 30.08 points in the adult occupant protection test. Both SUVs have also secured 44.54 points out of a maximum of 49 for child occupant protection (COP). The new Harrier & Safari are claims to perform perfectly in the side movable deformable barrier test. However, the BNCAP stated that the protection for the chest region in the frontal offset deformable barrier test in both SUVs proved to be less than ideal.

Bharat NCAP Harrier, Safari

The updated SUVs are based on the OMEGA-ARC architecture derived from the Land Rover’s D8 platform. The SUVs are equipped with features like seven airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, vehicle stability management (VSM), hill assist control (HAC), HSC, hill hold control, 360 degree camera, 3-point seatbelts, 360 degree surround camera, blind spot monitor and Level 2 ADAS tech.

Global NCAP

These two SUVs had received similar rating in Global NCAP’s crash test. Both SUVs have scored 33.05 out of 34 units for adult occupant protection, which results in a 5-star safety rating. Both SUVs offered good protection for driver’s and passenger’s head and neck in the Global NCAP crash test. Global NCAP rated the protection offered on both models to the front occupant’s chest as adequate.

Tata Harrier Side Pole Impact Test

In the child protection test, the new Tata twins have scored 45 points out of a maximum of 49 for child occupant protection. Both SUVs receive a full 5-star crash test rating. Both SUVs scored full 12 marks for the CRS (child restraint system) installation and the maximum dynamic score of 24.
