Tata Harrier & Safari Score 5 Star Crash Test Rating – GNCAP

Most of the new breed of Tata cars including the Nexon, Altroz, Punch, Tiago twin and Zest were crash tested by Global NCAP; except for the Harrier and the Safari. Now, both Harrier & Safari in their new avatars have gone through the crash tests and received a maximum 5 star safety rating by Global New Car Assessment Program.

The new Harrier and Safari are the first Tata models to be tested under the new, more stringent Global NCAP testing protocol. Both SUVs have scored 33.05 out of 34 units for adult occupant protection, which results in a 5-star safety rating. Both SUVs offered good protection for driver’s and passenger’s head and neck in the Global NCAP crash test. Global NCAP rated the protection offered on both models to the front occupant’s chest as adequate.

In the side impact test with a deformable barrier, Global NCAP report reveals that the new Tata Harrier and Safari facelifts offer “good protection” for head, chest, abdomen and pelvis. The new SUVs come with curtain airbags as standard. On the side pole impact tests, Both SUVs show good protection to the head and pelvis, and marginal protection to the chest and adequate protection to the abdomen. The bodyshell was found stable and capable of withstanding further loadings.

Child Protection Test

In the child protection test, the new Harrier and Safari facelift have scored 45 points out of 49. Both SUVs receive a full 5-star crash test rating. Both SUVs scored full 12 marks for the CRS (child restraint system) installation and the maximum dynamic score of 24.

Both SUVs were tested with dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child, both seated facing rearward. Both are fitted with ISOFIX anchorages, and a passenger airbag disabling switch, making them very versatile for transporting child occupants. The Safari and Harrier also meet requirements of UN127 and GTR9 for pedestrian protection as standard.
