We informed you earlier that the next generation Toyota Avanza could be unveiled before the end of this year. The current generation model was first presented in 2011, and has been around for nearly a decade now. The all new Toyota Avanza has been spotted in a showrooom in Indonesia, which suggest that the new model is almost ready for a launch.

The images reveal that the new model comes with the radically different exterior and interior design, giving the popular nameplate a fresh look. The new model has boxy body and long wheelbase, which should help Toyota create high cabin space. However, it looks way better and modern than the existing model.

The all-new Toyota Avanza has an all-new front design, which is inspired by the RAV4 and the Corolla Cross. It gets a large trapezoidal grille, flanked by slim LED headlamps and triangular fog light surrounds. The centre air intake is positioned lower on the bumper. There is a prominent chrome strip that starts from the top of the grille and runs through the headlights and along the bonnet and windows, and finishes at the D-pillars.

The outside rear view mirrors have been positioned on the door panels and the chunky wheel arches give it an SUV-like feel. The spotted model is likely to be fitted with 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the back, the all new Toyota Avanza has full-width taillights and a decorative skid plate. There are fake vents at the corners of the bumper. The spotted model has the Veloz badging, which suggest that this variant could have different front and rear compared to the standard model.

The interior of the all new Toyota Avanza is completely re-designed, as it has a more modern design. It gets cleaner dashboard that has a more rakish centre console with silver trim and an ambient lighting strip. There is a large 9-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, which should offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

It gets a digital instrument console, a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, dual-knob digital air conditioning controls, trapezoidal centre air vents, and the engine start-stop button. The spotted model has dual-tone interior scheme with white panels on the dashboard, centre console and door panels. The centre tunnel shows that the new Avanza will come with an electronic parking brake. The second row has a giant roof monitor, a single pop-out cupholder, and USB charging ports.

The new gen Toyota Avanza will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) that also underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. This front wheel-drive MPV could also make its way to our market. We reported earlier that Toyota and Suzuki JV is developing a new mid-sized SUV and a new C-segment MPV, which will be based on the DNGA platform.

It is expected to share the engines with the Raize. The MPV could get a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 98PS and 140Nm of torque. The entry-level models could get 88PS, 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol engine in Indonesia. The MPV is also likely to receive e:Smart Hybrid’s electrified 1.2L engine.

The all new Toyota Avanza will also comes with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). The twin windscreen-mounted cameras on the spotted model confirms presence of ADAS. It will offer features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane centring assist.
