The eagerly anticipated Tata Punch EV is scheduled to hit the Indian market on December 21, 2023. As the fourth electric offering from the indigenous automaker, following the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV, the Punch EV will enter the electric vehicle segment with a unique proposition. Positioned to compete with rivals such as the Citroen eC3 and the upcoming Hyundai Exter EV, the Tata electric micro SUV is expected to be priced competitively, ranging from approximately Rs 10-11 lakh for the base variant to around Rs 12.50 lakh for the top-end trim.
While official details will be disclosed in the coming weeks, it is anticipated that the Punch EV will be available in two trims—Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR)—similar to the Nexon EV. The powertrain setup will feature a permanent magnet synchronous motor coupled with a liquid-cooled battery. The Tata Punch EV will underpin Tata’s Gen 2 EV platform (Sigma), which is essentially a modified version of the Alpha architecture.
The Long-Range battery pack, available in higher trims, will come equipped with exclusive features, including a two-spoke steering wheel, a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a circular display-integrated gear selector dial, an electronic parking brake, an armrest, LED headlamps, and rear disc brakes. Adding to its distinct features, the Punch EV will mark a first for Tata electric cars by featuring a charging socket mounted upfront on the bumper. Additionally, it may emerge as the most affordable electric car in India with a sunroof—a notable feature for enthusiasts. In terms of design, the electric version of the micro SUV is expected to showcase distinct elements, including a uniquely styled front grille, a revised front bumper with a charging socket, LED headlamps, and newly designed alloy wheels.
