Tata Motors is currently dominating the electric passenger car segment with over 80 per cent market share. The company aims to produce 1 lakh electric vehicles in the country to meet the rising demand. Tata Motors is currently selling the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV Prime and the Nexon EV Max. The homegrown automaker has confirmed that Punch electric will soon join its EV fleet.
As a reminder, Tata Motors had showcased the Altroz electric pre-production model at the 2020 Auto Expo. In fact, the production-ready model has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. It is expected that the Punch EV could be launched before the Altroz EV. We expect the new Tata Punch EV to make its public debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. It will be positioned between the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV Prime.
The Tata Punch EV will directly rival the Citroen eC3, which is scheduled to be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2023. The report suggests that the electric Punch could be offered with two battery options and could offer ranges of around 300km to 350km. The Punch EV will become Tata’s first EV to be based on the latest ALFA modular platform. The ALFA platform is compatible with multiple body styles and engine options including electric, ICE and hybrid. This platform also underpins the Altroz hatchback.
The Punch EV is likely to share the features from the ICE version. It is expected to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic AC, powered ORVMs, cruise control, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and others. This model is also expected to get multi-mode regenerative braking, traction control, iTPMS, leather upholstery and others.
The ICE version of the Tata Punch is available in the price bracket of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9.54 lakh. We expect the new Tata Punch EV to cost somewhere around Rs 11 lakh to Rs 13 lakh.
