The automotive industry has witnessed its worst n recent times. Despite odd situations, Tata Motors is one of the few car manufacturers that have seen tremendous growth in passenger vehicle sales. The company has been registering consistent growth in volumes from the last few months. In fact, the carmaker recorded highest market share gain (4.29%) in 2021. A total of 1,24,135 Tata vehicles were sold from January to May 2021 as compared to 35,151 units of the same duration last year. At present, Tata’s market share YTD (year-to-date) stands at 9.39%.
Nissan, the Japanese carmaker, registered the second highest market share gain with sales of 16,881 units against 3,644 units of the previous year. The Japanese carmaker holds 1.28% market share, which is 0.75% higher than the last year. With total sales of 2,30,208 units, Hyundai Motor Company gained 0.72% market share this year. The South Korean carmaker is currently enjoying 17.41% market share, which was 16.69% last year. Mahindra & Mahindra and Honda stood at number four and five with market share gain of 0.54% and 0.53% respectively.
The home-grown carmaker, Mahindra managed to sell 78,455 units against 37,227 units of previous year and it currently holds 5.93% market share. With total sales of 38,850 units, Honda holds 2.94% market share against 2.41% of the last year. MG Motor, Volkswagen, Toyota, Kia and Renault gained 0.35%, 0.26%, 0.22%, 0.21% and 0.11% market share and stood at number six, seven, eight, nine and ten respectively.
