Skoda had showcased the Vision IN concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. This concept will be used to develop an all-new mid-sized SUV, which has already been spotted several times on India. The new mid-sized Skoda SUV will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The production version of the Vision IN will make India debut in Q1 (January-March), 2021, while the launch will take place in the second quarter of 2021 (April-June).
Debut of MQB AO IN Platform
The new Skoda Vision IN based SUV will mark the debut of Volkswagen Group’s MQB AO IN platform in India. This is basically the localised version of the MQB AO platform, which underpins the global-spec Skoda Kamiq, VW T-Cross and the Polo hatchback. This platform will also be used to develop the Volkswagen Taigun, Next-gen Skoda Rapid and the new Vento.
Skoda SUV Could Be Called Kosmiq/Kliq
Skoda has trademarked the Kosmiq and Kliq nameplates in the country. It is expected that the production version of the Vision IN could be called the Kosmiq. The new name shows Skoda’s love affair with the letter ‘K’ (The company is selling 3 SUVs globally – Karoq, Kodiaq and Kamiq).
Design, Interior & Dimensions
The concept model was 4,256mm long and 1,589mm tall. It rides on a wheelbase of 2,671mm, which is the biggest in its segment. This will help Skoda to create more space inside the cabin. The spy images reveal that the production model will remain true to the concept’s design. Design highlights are likely to include a chrome-embellished Skoda grille, split projector headlamps, 3-slot skid plate, prominent roof rails, crystal-like LED tail-lamps. The SUV is likely to feature 17-inch alloy wheels.
The SUV will be equipped with high-end features. It will have a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument console, LED ambient lights, connected car technologies, cruise control, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic AC and others.
