Skoda Kushaq CNG In The Works; To Rival Upcoming Creta, Vitara CNG

Automakers in India are now looking at alternate fuel options including strong hybrid and CNG. Not just small cars, big SUVs including the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and the Hyundai Creta will soon receive CNG fuel option. What’s interesting is that Skoda Kushaq will also receive a CNG fuel option in the near future. In fact, the Skoda Kushaq CNG version has already been spotted testing on the Indian market.

The Toyota Hyryder will be the first SUV in its category to get CNG option, and the Grand Vitara will arrive in near future. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos will also receive CNG version in 2023. It seems like the Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun will also receive CNG bi-fuel option, as the Kushaq CNG has been spotted testing with emission testing equipment.

Not just Kushaq, the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo was snapped with red number plates at CNG filling station. In fact, Zac Hollis, the ex-director of Skoda Auto India, had confirmed the possibility of CNG Skodas on social media. The Kushaq CNG bi-fuel variant was spotted with emission testing equipment attached.

The Skoda Kushaq is offered with 2 turbo-petrol engines including a 1.0L 3-cylinder and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder. While the former is good for 115bhp and 178Nm of torque, the 1.5L engine pushes out 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are on offer.

Kushaq CNG Spied

We believe that the Skoda Kushaq’s 1.0L turbo petrol unit will come with a CNG unit. The CNG kit will be fitted into the boot of the Kushaq. Compared to the regular model, the CNG Kushaq will offer lesser power and torque. The Skoda Kushaq CNG bi-fuel is expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh more than the regular petrol version.
