Renault Kiger HBC compact SUV will be based on CMF-A+ modular platform that also underpins the Triber MPV.

French automaker, Renault is gearing up for the launch of the Duster and the Captur facelifts for the Indian market. The new models will be equipped with a new 154bhp, 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Nissan Kicks. The company is also readying an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed HBC that is likely to be launched by the end of this year or early 2021.

Rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger, the upcoming sub-4 meter SUV has been spotted testing for the first time post lockdown. The upcoming compact SUV was spotted testing alongside the BSVI compliant Triber MPV. The upcoming model will be designed and developed on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A+ modular platform, which will also underpin the upcoming Nissan Magnite compact SUV.

Renault is testing the early prototype of the compact SUV, as the spotted Renault Kiger test mule wore massive camouflage. Some of the design highlights include bumper-housed headlamps, signature ‘Renault grille’, usable roof rails, roof-integrated spoiler and big fenders.

The Renault Kiger HBC compact SUV is most likely to share the interior features and components from the Triber MPV. The compact SUV will receive a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, LED headlamps, etc. Previous media reports claim that the Kiger could receive connected car technology and the factory-fitted sunroof.

The upcoming Renault Kiger sub-4 meter SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine in naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions. While the NA unit is good for 71bhp and 96Nm, the turbo engine produces 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. Both manual and CVT automatic versions are likely to be on offer.

The new Renault HBC compact SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 6 lakh – Rs 8.5 lakh. The new model will join the Nissan Magnite as the most affordable compact SUVs to be launched in our market. It will directly rival the petrol versions of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
