Renault Duster 7-Seater SUV Testing Begins – What We Know So Far?

After nearly a decade of existence in India, the Renault Duster SUV had developed a cult following for its handling, ride quality, and ruggedness. The model was discontinued in 2022 due to its long-running poor sales and the implementation of new emission norms. Now, we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the third-generation Duster slated to hit Indian roads in 2025. Here, it will be positioned against the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV700.

What’s even more exciting is that the French automaker also plans to bring in a 7-seater version of the new Duster (Dacia Bigster three-row), which was recently caught testing with heavy camouflage. The Renault Duster 7-seater (Bigster) will make its global debut towards the end of this year. Let’s delve into some key details of this upcoming SUV.

Similar to the new-gen Duster, the SUV’s 7-seater version will underpin the CMF-B platform. However, it will be longer and more spacious than its younger sibling. The Renault Duster 7-seater will measure nearly 4.6 meters in length (that’s around 300 millimeters longer than the 5-seater Duster) and have a slightly longer wheelbase. Besides sharing a platform, the three-row SUV will share most of its design elements, features, and components with its younger sibling. Though, we can expect it to come with a bunch of extra features.

The Renault Duster 7-seater (Dacia Bigster) is likely to come with the 130bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol with a 48 starter motor and 1.6L, 4-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrains that will also be used in its 5-seater version. The hybrid setup includes a gasoline motor along with a 1.2kWh battery pack and two electric motors. It will be capable of driving solely on electric power for up to 80 percent. Transmission duties will be handled by an automatic unit. In select markets, the new Duster will also be offered with the petrol-LPG fuel option. The Bigster SUV will have multiple drive modes and 4X2 capabilities.
