Peugeot 1008: A Compact SUV Based On New Citroen C3 In The Works

Stellantis is all set to unveil the long-awaited Citroen C3 sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market on September 16, 2021. The new model will be the brand’s new global model, which will also be launched in select international markets including Brazil. A new media report claims that Peugeot is also developing a new compact SUV, which will be based on the same modular CMP platform as the new Citroen C3.

Rumoured to be called the Peugeot 1008, the new model will have an electric version for Europe. Scheduled to be launched in 2025, the new compact SUV is internally called the “Project P44” and is part of the “Smart Car” program – which is creating cars for emerging markets including Latin America and India.

We reported earlier that Citroen is also developing a new mid-sized SUV, which will measure around 4.2-4.3 meters in length. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. We expect the new Peugeot 1008 will be based on the same model. The report claims that the new Peugeot 1008 will be a small car, and will measure around 4.15 meters in length. This is very similar to the Peugeot 2008, which is 4.16 meters long.

The new model will be launched in Europe as an all-electric model and will replace the 108 subcompact, which will be discontinued in 2021. In Brazil, the new SUV will replace the 2008 SUV. It is expected that the new compact SUV will share the styling cues from the latest generations of the Peugeot 208 and the Peugeot 3008. It will offer good interior space and a decent luggage carrying capacity.

In India, Citroen will launch the C3 compact SUV in early 2022. Adding to it, a new mid-sized SUV based on the CMP platform is also under development. The new models will come with petrol engine options along with flex-fuel system. Adding to it, the company is also developing a mini electric SUV for the Indian market.
