It’s been just 7 days Maruti Suzuki showcased its upcoming Jimny 5-door SUV for the Indian market. Bookings opened since its debut at a token sum of Rs 25,000. The new Maruti Jimny 5-door has gathered over 5,000 pre-orders even before its price announcement that’s likely to happen in the month of April. We expect it to cost around Rs 10 lakh onwards. Under the hood, the 5-door Maruti Jimny employs a 1.5L, K15B petrol engine with idle start/stop function. The motor can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. It produces a peak power of 104.8PS and 134.2Nm of torque. The SUV gets AllGrip Pro 4X4 with low-range transfer gear as standard fitment. Mileage figure of the Jimny SUV is yet to be revealed.

In terms of dimensions, the new Jimny measures as long as the Mahindra Thar – i.e. 3985mm. Its width and height stand at 1645mm and 1720mm respectively. The new Maruti SUV has the longest wheelbase in its segment, measuring 2590mm. It has a ground clearance of 210mm, which is higher than the Force Gurkha. Based on the ladder-on-frame chassis, the Maruti Jimny 5-door has an approach angle of 36°, a departure angle of 50°, and a break-over angle of 24°.
The range-topping Alpha trim comes with some exclusive features such as a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, Arkayms surround sound system, leather wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, smart keyless entry with push-button engine start/stop, electrically foldable side mirrors, automatic headlamps, headlamp washer, LED headlamps with DRLs, fog lamps, alloy wheels, dark green glass and body-coloured ORVMs.
With respect to safety, the new Maruti SUV offers 6 airbag protection, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, hill descent control, brake limited slip differential, 3-point ELR seat belts, rear view camera, rear defogger, ABS with EBD, brake assist, central door locking and Isofix child seat mounts.
