Orxa Energies, the Bengaluru-based EV startup, has launched its first electric motorcycle, called the Orxa Mantis. First unveiled in 2019, the new electric motorcycle (+ 1.3kW Charger) is priced at Rs 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The company is offering a 30,000km or 3 year warranty on the Mantis e-bike, battery and motor; however, the motorcycle is not eligible for FAME 2 subsidy.
Orxa Mantis Range, Top Speed
The motorcycle comes fitted with a liquid-cooled motor that draws power from an 8.9kWh fixed battery pack. The motor output stands at 20.5kW (27.5bhp) and offers a peak torque of 93Nm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 8.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 135kmph.
The Orxa Mantis is claimed to offer an estimated range of 221km (Indian Driving Condition or IDC cycle) on a single charge. The motorcycle is positioned in the same segment as the Ultraviolette F77, which has a larger 10.2kWh battery pack and has a claimed IDC range of 307km. The Mantis 8.9kWh battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80% in 5 hours, using a standard 1.3kW charger. It also comes with a fast charger, called the ‘Blitz’, which charges the battery in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Suspension & braking
The electric motorcycle is based on a segment-first all-aluminium aerospace-grade alloy frame and subframe. For suspension duties, the motorcycle gets a 41mm telescopic front fork and preload adjustable monoshock at the rear. The braking system comprises of a 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disc along with a single-channel ABS as standard. At this price point, Orxa Energies should offer USD front forks and dual-channel ABS.
The motorcycle has a kerb weight of 182kg, seat height of 815mm and a ground clearance of 180mm. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Ceat Zoom tubeless radial tyres, which claimes to have more flexible side walls for better control while cornering.
