Ola Electric has released the first official pictures of its first electric scooter that’s likely to hit roads in the second half of 2021. The model has compact dimensions and carries a simple design language. It seems to be based on the Etergo AppScooter, the Dutch brand, which was acquired by Ola in May 2020. The Ola electric scooter features a single-side swingarm, telescopic forks suspension at front and a disc brake at the front. Minor cosmetic changes have been made to the Ola e scooter to distinguish it from its Dutch cousins.
Powertrain details of the upcoming Ola electric scooter are yet to be revealed by the company. Its Dutch sibling, Etergo AppScooter comes with swappable high energy density batteries that promise a range up to 240km.
The company says that the electric scooter is capable to do 0 to 45kmph in 45 seconds. It comes fitted with a TFT instrument cluster and offers an under-seat storage capacity of 50 liters. The overall width, height and wheelbase of the AppScooter stand at 700mm, 1155mm and 1345mm respectively.
The upcoming Ola electric scooter will be manufactured at the company’s Tamil Nadu based facility that has production capacity of 2 million units per annum. The same plant will serve as production hub for global markets as well including Asia, Europe and Latin America. The 1st phase of the facility will have annual production capacity of 2 million units and get ready by June 2021. It will produce 10 million units on annual basis at its full capacity by 2022. That means, one Ola electric scooter will be produced in every 2 seconds.
Once launched, the Ola e-scooter will go up against the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. Compared to the Etergo AppScooter, it will be more affordable. More details on the upcoming Ola e-scooter are likely to be revealed in coming months. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
