Nissan, Renault To Launch Entry-Level Electric Car In India

Renault electric car

Renault-Nissan recently announced their plan to launch three new models in the Indian market. The range will include the new-generation Renault Duster, a Triber-based Nissan 7-seater MPV and A-segment electric car. Both companies will foray into the entry-level EV segment with a new model that will be designed on the CMF-A EV platform. This modular architecture has been designed by the alliance specially for the electric cars. It’s compatible to both low sedans and SUVs.

The CMF-A EV platform has compact electric components and allows to form a large wheelbase and a flat floor. It doesn’t have a transmission tunnel that enables to maximize capacity better than other vehicles with similar lengths. The architecture’s modular nature allows the carmaker install one or two electric motors in an EV and develop both 2WD and 4WD drive models. It also supports the self-driving system.

Renaualt Kwid Electric Range

Just so you know, the Renault Kwid E-Tech (Kwid EV) is already on sell in the Chinese market.  The electric car comes with the a 26.8kWh battery pack and delivers a claimed range of 271km (NEDC cycle) in the city. It offers a peak power of 44bhp and 125Nm of torque. The model carries a closed-off front grille with chrome garnish, E-Tech badges and newly-designed alloy wheels.

Some of its key features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, EV-specific instrument cluster, four spokes steering wheel, power windows, 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and hill start aid.

Renault’s third-generation Duster will make its way to India in 2024-25. It will be built on the heavily localized CMF-B modular architecture and could be offered with 5 and 7-seats configuration options. The CMF-B platform meets the existing and the upcoming safety standard. It’s compatible to electric and hybrid powertrains. The new Duster will be bigger and more spacious than its current model.
