Nissan Plans to Bring Global SUVs in India – Patrol, X-Trail?

The Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV gave a new lease of life to the Japanese carmaker in India. Now, the company aims to achieve average sales of over 4000 units on monthly basis. Speaking to an online media publication, Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India said that the Indian buyers are opting bigger SUVs for more cabin space and better comfort and the company’s global SUV might accomplish customers’ requirements.

Earlier, we have reported that Nissan is evaluating its flagship Patrol SUV for the Indian market. It will be a brand builder product for the Japanese carmaker in the country. If launched, the Nissan Patrol will be brought via CBU (Completely Built Unit) route under the government’s new rules that allow a carmaker to import 2,500 units without any homologation process. In global markets, the current-generation Patrol was launched back in 2010 and it received a second mid-life update in late 2019.

In India, the carmaker might bring in the same RHD (right-hand drive) model that’s sold in the South African and Australian markets. The SUV has robust body-built with 5140mm of length, 1995mm of width and 1940mm of height. Powering the Nissan Patrol is a 5.6L V8 petrol engine paired to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The gasoline motor has been turned for delivering a massive power of 405bhp and 560Nm of torque. It comes with a rear locking differential.

The Japanese carmaker might also bring in the new-generation Nissan X-Trail SUV that’s ready to debut this month (April 2021). The latest spy pictures confirm that the model will witness significant changes inside and out. While its China-spec version will be offered with a new 204bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engine (VC-Turbo) and a CVT automatic gearbox, the US version (Nissan Rogue) will come with a 179bhp, 2.5L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
