Skoda Auto has released the exterior design skeches of the next-gen Skoda Fabia hatchback, which is scheduled to be unveiled in May 2021. The fourth generation Skoda Fabia will be bigger, bolder and more aggressive than its previous model.
The next-gen Skoda Fabia is based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit MQB-AO platform, which also underpins the Kamiq crossover. In fact, the Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun are based on the Indianized version of the MQB-AO platform – called the MQB AO IN. This platform allows Skoda engineers to create more space for passengers and luggage.
The next-gen Skoda Fabia is claimed to be 111mm longer and 48mm wider than its predecessor. Adding to it, the boot space has been increased by 50-litres. It measures 4,107mm in length, 1,780mm in width and 1,460mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,564mm. The design sketches reveal that the fourth-gen Fabia will receive full LED lighting system. It comes with sharp-looking full LED headlamps with integrated L-shaped LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps). Other design highlights include a large signature butterfly grille with chrome outline, and LED tail-lamps with Skoda’s familiar crystalline elements.
The new Skoda Fabia will come with multiple engine options. It features a 1.0L 3-cylinder NA petrol engine that offers two states of tune – 64bhp/95Nm and 70bhp/95Nm. The turbocharged 1.0L engine is also tuned in two different states – 94bhp/175Nm and 108bhp/200Nm.
The new-gen Skoda Fabia will be offered in multiple engine options. The hatchback gets a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that offers two states of tune – 64bhp/95Nm and 70bhp/95Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 94bhp unit is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the 108bhp unit will be offered with 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG.
The top-spec model will receive the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
