New Volvo S60 and XC40 Recharge India Launch In 2021

Swedish carmaker, Volvo has announced to launch 2 new cars in the Indian market in 2021. The first model to be launched in our market is the new Volvo S60. While the bookings for the third-generation S60 sedan will commence from January 2021, the launch will take place in March 2021. This model was earlier planned to be launched in late 2019 or early 2020. The previous model was discontinued in July 2019.

The second Volvo to be launched is the XC40 Recharge, which will also be the brand’s first pure electric vehicle in our market. Volvo uses “Recharge” as a variant suffix for all its future electric cars.

In terms of styling, the third-generation Volvo S60 gets brand’s new design language with signature two-part front grille and ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights and C-shaped tail-lamps. The company will introduce the S60 T4-Inscription variant, which will be equipped with features like a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system, a 4-zone climate control, wireless charging, rear parking camera, Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof and 18-inch diamond cut alloys.

The new Volvo S60 will be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that produces 190bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Transmission options will include an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It will offer 3 driving modes – Comfort, Eco and Dynamic. In terms of safety, the new sedan gets adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, speed alert and driver alert system. The new model is based on the Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). It will rival the BMW 3-Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Jaguar XE and the upcoming Audi A4 facelift.

Based on the regular XC40, the upcoming Volvo XC40 Recharge features an AWD drivetrain that offers a claimed range of 400km on a single charge. It uses two 150 kW electric motors, and offers a combined output is 402 BHP and 659 Nm.. The batteries are placed under the floor, between the axles. It can be charged up to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. It accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 4.9 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 180kmph.
