New Toyota Yaris Hatchback In India – Spy Images Out

The new Toyota Yaris hatchback, which was unveiled in October 2019, has been caught on camera during its test rounds in Delhi. The model is likely to be here for the durability tests. As of now, the Japanese carmaker has no plan to bring in its global premium hatchback in the country. In the premium hatch segment, Toyota sells Glanza that’s generating decent volume for the company.

The fourth-generation Yaris hatch carries an all-new design along with a new platform and a three-cylinder hybrid powertrain. The carmaker says its design is more “condensed and agile” than the previous generation. It underpins the brand’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform – GA-B, and measures 50mm wider than the old model. While the new one has 60mm wider track and 50mm longer wheelbase, its length and roof height have been reduced by 5mm and 40mm respectively. It’s claimed to have best-in-class turning circle.

The new Toyota Yaris hatchback has a minimalist dashboard with mounted infotainment system alongside the ‘binocular style’ instruments. Compared to its predecessor, the new model offers better driving position with elevated hip point, well cushioned seat and wheel adjustment feature. Its 8.0-inch touchscreen info unit supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Yaris hatch is the first car in its segment to offer a centrally mounted airbag system between the driver and passenger. It also offers advanced driver assistance system including full speed range intelligent adaptive cruise control and lane trace assist system). In Europe, the new Toyota Yaris hatchback is offered with three petrol engines – 1.0L with 5-speed manual gearbox, 1.5L with 6-speed manual and CVT automatic and 1.5L with hybrid technology. The hybrid powertrain includes an electric motor (80bhp/140Nm) and an air-cooled lithium-ion battery. The battery pack is 27% lighter than its replacement (nickel metal hydride). Even if India is on Toyota’s launch radar, the premium hatchback is likely to come with the hybrid powertrain.
