New Sub-Compact SUVs To Be Launched In India: Tata Nexon Rival

Here is a list of upcoming new 6 sub-4 meter SUVs to be launched in the Indian market in the next 2 years. These SUVs will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and the Ford EcoSport.

American SUV maker, Jeep has officially announced to launch an all-new sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market in 2022. The new model is reportedly to be based on the Groupe PSA’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), which also underpins the global Peugeot 208. The company could also use the Fiat Panda’s 4×4 platform. It is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which could produce around 130bhp of power.

Citroen will start rolling out locally developed products in India from the second half of 2021. The company will launch an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed C21. The new model will be positioned against the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. It will share styling cues from the bigger Citroen SUVs including the C5 Aircross. The SUV will be based on the simplified version of the CMP platform, which underpins the Peugeot 208. It will be offered with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Japanese automaker, Honda will enter into the sub-4 meter SUV segment in 2021-22. Rumoured to be called the Honda ZR-V, the new SUV is expected to be based on the new Amaze’s platform. It will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The compact SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 121bhp and 175Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The diesel version could receive the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine producing 99bhp and 200Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki will introduce the next generation Vitara Brezza before the end of this year. The new model is likely to retain the rugged, squared-off and upright stance along with the boxy shape and spacious cabin. The new model will be based on the modified version of the Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform. The SUV will receive connected car tech and advanced safety systems. It will be powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine with a stronger mild-hybrid system.

New Maruti Suzuki Jimny

If reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki will launch the 5-door Jimny SUV in the country by July 2022. Codenamed YMD, the 5-door Jimny could be called the new Gypsy in India. It will be based on the ladder-frame chassis, which also underpins the 3-door Jimny. The India-spec Maruti Jimny 5-door will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. A four-wheel-drive system is expected to come as standard. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely to be on offer.

French automaker, Renault will launch the new Kiger sub-4 meter SUV on February 15, 2021. The new model will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Triber MPV and the Nissan Magnite. It will be offered with two engine options – a 72bhp, 1.0L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 99bhp, 1.0L turbocharged petrol. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
