New Mahindra XUV500 To Get Autonomous Emergency Braking – Reveals Spy Images

Previous media reports claim that the new Mahindra XUV500 2021 will receive Level 1 Autonomous Technology. A new set of spy images reveal that the next-gen XUV500 could receive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

The ADAS features are recently offered with the MG Gloster full-sized SUV. Similarly, the new Mahindra XUV500 will receive ADAS for active driver assistance features. The spy images reveal that the SUV has a black rectangular part in the lower grille, and this could a millimeter-wave radar. Adding to it, a front-facing camera can be seen near the IRVM (Interior Rear-View Mirror).

New Mahindra XUV500 Radar

In 2019, Mahindra joined hands with South Korean Mando company to source ADAS. The company has ordered front radar and front camera, which are used in Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). This safety features it expected to be mandatory in India by 2023. The radar sensor will be placed behind the grille or windshield to monitor driving parameters such as speed, acceleration and proximity of the vehicle to obstacles. This sensor directs these information to AEB driver assistance system.

The other driver assistance features expected in the new Mahindra XUV500 include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Depature Warning (LDW) and Park Assist. The XUV500 will be the only product in its category to offer Advanced Driver Assistance System, as this system is not available in rivals like the Tata Harrier, the MG Hector and the Jeep Compass. However, Mando is trying hard to secure orders from Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors.

New Mahindra XUV500 ADAS Spied

The new XUV500 will feature more than one petrol engine option. The SUV will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the new Thar; however, this engine will offer power up to 190bhp. The SUV will also receive the BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is expected to produce close to 180bhp of power.
