After the huge success of 3-door Thar, Mahindra is now ready to introduce a more practical and spacious 5-door Thar lifestyle SUV in India. Rumoured to be called the Mahindra Thar Armada, the new 5-door SUV is expected to be launched by mid-2024 – most probably in August. The SUV has been caught testing multiple times on different terrains. Ahead of the launch, new details about the Thar LWB interiors have been revealed on the Internet.
Mahindra Thar Armada Interior
The 5-door Thar is likely to be around 300mm longer than the 3-door model that measures 3,985mm in length. The wheelbase will also be increased to create more space in the second-row and bigger boot. It comes with a significantly revised interior along with several new comfort and convenience features.
The new Mahindra Thar Armada 5-door shares several components like steering wheel and sunroof fron the Scorpio-N. The dashboard layout and switchgear remains identical to the 3-door model. It is fitted with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which is likely to support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Navigation and voice assistant. The lifestyle SUV could be offered with a dual-tone black and brown colour scheme.
The SUV will come with a fixed metal roof, which is required to offer a single-pane sunroof. The SUV also comes with 60:40 split function for the second-row seats, and armrests for both front and rear occupants. Other features will include rain sensing wipers, keyless entry, hill descent control, digital instrument console, rear AC vents and others.
Design
The overall silhouette of the Thar Armada appears identical to the 3-door model. Besides larger dimensions, the 5-door Thar will have new design elements including revised front grille, LED headlamps with DRLs and LED fog lamps, rear doors to access second-row seats, C-pillar mounted rear door handles, and bigger 19-inch wheels. It could also offer a 360 degree camera.
Engine Options
The new 5-door Thar will be based on the same chassis that underpins the Scorpio-N. It is likely to be offered with the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel motors, which also powers the Scorpio-N. While the former is good for 200bhp and 370Nm/380Nm, the diesel engine produces 172bhp and 370Nm/400Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The lifestyle off-road SUV is expected to come with either 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain options.
The SUV is likely to receive the Scorpio N’s penta-link suspension for improved stability. The 3-door Thar is equipped with an independent double wishbone front suspension with coil over dampers at the front & a multilink solid rear axle with coil over dampers at the rear.
