New Honda City Hatchback Revealed – All You Need To Know

The long-awaited Honda City hatchback has finally been launched in Thailand. In Thailand, the new hatch is available in 3 variants – S+, SV and RS – priced at Baht 599,000 (Approx 14.62 lakhs), Baht 675,000 (Approx 16.47 lakhs) and Baht 749,000 (around 18.28 lakh) respectively.

The new City hatch looks identical to the sedan till C-pillar, and the biggest change is made to the rear profile. It comes with a sportier exterior design, featuring projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a chromed grille (honeycomb grille and a carbon fibre-look front bumper lip in RS variant), LED tail-lamps, and 15-inch alloy wheels.

The rear profile has smooth, aerodynamic panels, horizontally-stacked LED tail-lamps and dual-tone lower bumper, roof-integrated spoiler with brake light and simple tailgate design. New Honda City Hatchback Interior

The cabin of the City hatchback is identical to the sedan sibling, featuring all-black scheme in the RS variant. It comes with leather seats, piano black front console, interior door handles and chrome treatment. The hatchback also gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and SIRI voice control system. The vehicle gets multi-functional steering wheel and automatic AC.

The biggest change is that the new Honda City hatchback comes with new 6-:40 split folding seat, which company calls the Ultra Seat (ULTR). Honda claims that the seat can be adjusted to increase the utility space up to 4 modes with a large rear luggage compartment. The 4 modes –

– U tility Mode – Back seats folded flat to increase boot space
– L ong Mode – Front and rear seats, adjustable folding increase space in length
– T all Mode – The back seat folds up to increase storage space in the height
– The R Efresh Mode – Folding front seat connected to the rear seat.

– This variant comes with sporty RS styling kit, featurng a gloss black front grille and RS emblem with sporty front bumper and grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, and blackened ORVMs with integrated blinkers.

– It comes with black-coloured rear spoiler and sporty 16-inch alloy wheels

– It gets suede seats with red stitching, a rear armrest with cup holders, and Honda Connect connected car technology.

– The new City hatchback is powered by a 1.0L DOHC VTEC TURBO 3-cylinder 12-Valve engine that also powers the City Sedan RS in Malaysia. This engine is capable of producing 122bhp at 5,500rpm and 173Nm of torque between 2,000rpm to 4,500rpm.

– Paired to a CVT automatic gearbox, the new Honda City hatch is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 23.3kmpl.

– The new City sedan is offered in multiple engine options – a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5L turbo-diesel (India-spec Only), 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo-petrol and an intelligent i-MMD strong hybrid system comprising of 1.5L petrol engine and two electric motors.

– The new City hatchback is 4,345mm long (4,349mm in RS), 1,748mm wide and 1,488 in height and has a wheelbase of 2,589mm. The hatchback offers a ground clearance of 135mm.

– On the flip side, the new City sedan is 4,553mm long, 1,748mm wide and 1,467mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,589mm. In fact, the Thai-spec City sedan also has a ground clearance of 135mm. 

Safety Features

– The new City hatchback comes equipped with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control system, vehicle stability assist system, hill start assist and rear view camera, etc.

The new City hatchback is offered in 6 exterior paint scheme – Metallic Ignite Red (RS version only), Metallic Meteoroid Gray, Platinum White (RS Only), Crystal Black, Sonic Gray and Taffeta White.

India Launch?

Honda has no plans to launch the new City hatchback in India. This model measures 4.3 meters in length, which will prove to be a costlier model for our price sensitive market. However, the City hatch replaces the Jazz hatch in select Asian markets.
