French automaker, Peugeot has revealed the new Peugeot 308 with new design and interior along with class-leading technology and safety. It also gets plug-in hybrid engines for the first time, along with petrol and diesel powertrains. The new Peugeot 208 will go on sale in the European markets in late 2021.
The all-new Peugeot 308 comes equipped with brand’s new logo. The vehicle comes equipped with the latest-generation driving aids and Peugeot i-Cockpit with 3D technology, plus i-Connect Advanced infotainment system. The VW Golf rival also available with two plug-in hybrid powertrains as well as efficient petrol and diesel engines. By 2025, Peugeot will also offer an electrified variant.
The Peugeot 308 is based on third generation Stellantis’s EMP2 platform. The premium hatch rides on 55mm longer wheelbase, and has a reduced height of 20mm. It is available in wide range of colour options – Olivine Green, Cumulus Grey, Bianca White, Pearlescent White, Nera Black, Elixir Red and Vertigo Blue. It features new LED headlamps with vertically stacked LED DRLs. It feature Peugeot Matrix LED technology offered on GT and GT premium variants. Upfront is a wide grille, wider air-dams and new bumper that has fog lamps and reverse lights.
Inside the cabin, the Peugeot 308 gets a 10-inch i-cockpit display, new steering wheel with a 3D design and new infotainment system with fully configurable i-toggles, two USB C sockets, etc. It offers a boot space of 412-litres, which can be increased to 1,323-litres by folding the rear seats.
The 2021 Peugeot 308 comes with several safety and driver assistance features such as Blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, 180 degree reversing camera with integrated cleaning nozzle, 360 degree surround view parking assistance with four cameras, heating for the windscreen and steering wheel, E-call+ emergency call with passenger number information and location, etc.
It also gets adaptive cruise control with start/stop feature, automatic emergency braking, active lane keeping assistance, driver attention alert, automatic high beam, traffic sign recognition, electronic parking brake, etc.
The Peugeot 308 will come with two plug-in hybrid options, featuring a 12.4kWh lithium ion battery pack. The Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 variant comes with an 81kW electric motor with 150bhp engine, which offers a range of 60kms in electric mode. The Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 variant gets the same 81kW motor with a 180bhp engine, and it offers a 57km electric range.
The premium hatch also gets a 1.2-litre PureTech 130 petrol engine that offers two states of tunes – 108bhp and 128bhp. The diesel version gets a 1.5L BlueHDi 130 engine producing 128bhp. Plug-in hybrids and 128bhp petrol are paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and a 6-speed MT will come as standard.
