MG Motor India is preparing to showcase a wide range of new electric vehicles and its global models at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company has already confirmed that the new MG4 electric hatchback will make its India debut at the auto show. Adding to it, the British carmaker will showcase its upcoming Air City EV concept along with the MG6 sedan and the MG5 electric estate at the 16th edition of Indian Auto Expo.
MG4 Electric
The British carmaker owned by SAIC will showcase the MG4 electric hatchback at the 2023 Auto Expo. It has recently been introduced in select international markets and has received a 5 star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test. It comes fitted with several high-end safety features including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). The ADAS tech will offer features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist and others. In terms of features, the electric hatchback gets connected car tech, ventilated front seats, a 360 degree camera, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging, all LED lighting system and others.
It is based on SAIC’s modular scalable platform (MSP). In terms of proportions, the MG4 electric measures 4287mm in length, 1836mm in width and 1506mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2705mm. The electric hatchback is offered with two battery packs – 51kWh and 64kWh – offering power worth 170bhp and 203bhp respectively. Both versions have a single-motor, RWD system and offer a maximum torque of 250Nm. The MG 4 electric hatchback offers a range of up to 350km with the smaller battery pack and 452km with the larger battery pack (on the WLTP cycle).
MG Air EV Concept
MG Motor India will preview the brand’s two-door Air EV in the concept form. It was originally expected to showcase the production version of the Air EV at the Auto Expo; however, MG has decided to introduce a close-to-production concept at the event. MG Motor India is expected to announce the prices of the Air EV 2-door electric vehicle before the end of this quarter, 2023. The new model measures just 2.9 metres in length, and will be positioned as a tech-laden, urban commuter as an affordable model. It is likely to be equipped with a 20kwh-25kWh battery pack, which is expected to offer a range of 200-250km on a single charge.
MG5 Electric Estate
The MG5 electric estate is currently on sale in markets like the UK and Europe. This electric model comes with a 61kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 402km and is powered by a 156bhp electric motor. The MG5 EV comes with high-end tech and features including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). In the Asian markets, the MG5 nameplate is used for a completely different model. In China and Thailand, the nameplate is used for a midsize sedan powered by pure-ICE powertrains.
