MG ZS Petrol SUV Launch Before Diwali; To Get A New Name

It is no secret that MG Motors is readying an all-new mid-sized SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks. The new model will be the petrol-derivative of the MG ZS Electric. MG Motors had showcased this SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. In fact, the ZS petrol has been spotted multiple times during its test rounds on Indian roads.

According to the AutoCarIndia, the new MG ZS Petrol SUV will be launched in the Q3, 2021. Adding to it, MG Motors will ditch the ZS moniker in order to give it a distinct identity. The SUV will be positioned below the Hector and will measure around 4.3 meters in length.

The spy images confirm that the petrol version of the MG ZS will be based on the facelifted model, which is already on sale in the European markets. The SUV will receive significant design changes and upgraded cabin. It will have a new front fascia, featuring sharper headlamps and a new front grille and bumper. Some of the design highlights include a new hexagonal grille with chrome surround, new bumper and LED headlamps with integrated DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), 17-inch alloy wheels, new rear bumper and new LED signature for the tail-lamps.

The new MG ZS mid-sized SUV will come with feature-loaded cabin. It will have a large 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The SUV will have a digital instrument console, 360 degree camera, navigation system, updated MG iSmart connected car technology, panoramic sunroof, air purifier, cruise control, powered driver’s seat and others.

The MG ZS mid-sized SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that churns out 120bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. The SUV will also receive a performance oriented version, which will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 163bhp and 230Nm of torque. This will make the MG ZS the most powerful in its category. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are powered by a 138bhp, 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine, while the Duster and the Kicks get 156bhp, 1.3L turbocharged engine. In fact, the upcoming Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun will receive the 147bhp, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
