2022 Mitsubishi Outlander 7-Seater SUV Unveiled: Interior, Specs

The new generation 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has finally been unveiled. The new model comes with all-new design and interior along with new mechanics. The new Outlander will go on sale in North America (the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico) in April 2021, which will be followed by other markets.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is benefited from Mitsubishi’s partnership with Nissan, as it shares the platform, engine and several interior parts from the 2021 Rogue. The new model also gets a standard third-row seat. The new model is based on the ‘I-Fu-Do-Do’ concept, which means authentic and majestic in Japanese.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Specs

The new Outlander features the latest iteration of Mitsubishi’s “dynamic shield” styling motif and a traditional stance. The SUV is inspired by the Engelberg Tourer Concept. The SUV comes with all-new interior with improved fit and finish, along with a standard 8-inch touchscreen or an optional 9-inch touchscreen.

The SUV gets brand new front grille and split headlamp arrangement. There is a razor-thin LEDs placed on top that serve as the DRLs and turn signals, while the main headlamp with 3-zone lighting element is placed lower on the bumper. The lower headlamp unit has LED fog lights and high and low beams.

The C-shaped strips of chrome on either side of the grille resembles the brush guards offered on old Montero SUV. The bumper’s lower opening is claimed to pay homage to the Lancer Evolution X. The side profile of the SUV is inspired by the Engelberg Tourer, featuring bulging wheel arches and large 20-inch wheels.

At the back, the SUV gets upright greenhouse and thick D-pillar, and thin taillights. A hexagon motif that appears to have been cut from a single surface ornaments the tailgate. This shape is inspired by the rear-mounted spare tire of the Pajero/Montero. It features the horizontal-themed T-shaped tail-lights.

The interior of the new Outlander shares design and features from Nissan’s SUVs. The infotainment screens, HVAC controls, 12.3-inch digital instrument console, head-up display and others are sourced from Nissan ROgue. The cabin is finished in brand-specific color options along with semi-aniline leather and genuine aluminum trim on top variants. It gets a 4-spoke steering wheel.

The new Outlander rides on 2,705mm wheelbase that’s 35mm longer than its predecessor. There is a significant increase in legroom for the front and second row. The third row split-folds 50/50 for increased boot space, while the second row gets a 40/20/40 seat arrangement.

What’s Under The Hood?

The new Outlander is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is the same engine that powers the Nissan Rogue. Paired to an 8-speed CVT automatic, this engine produces 181bhp of power and 245Nm of torque. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options will be on offer. Mitsubushi claims that the new model will be 2.6% more fuel efficient than the previous model.

Mitsubishi calls the 4-wheel-drive system the Super All-Wheel Control, which integrates a hydraulic center clutch to give torque instantly to the front and rear axles. This system doesn’t rely on wheel slip to send power to the opposite end of the vehicle.

The 2022 Outlander comes equipped with MI-PILOT Assist, which integrates Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. Vehicles equipped with navigation link system can read the speed signs to automatically change the set speed and utilize the navigation map information to automatically adjust the vehicle speed to that appropriate for curves and forks in expressways and other situations. To reduce troublesome setting operations while driving in heavy traffic on expressways, the vehicle can automatically move forward within about 30 seconds after stopping.

It gets traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, predictive forward collision monitoring, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning and lane departure system. The SUV could get emergency braking, collision warning and lane-keep assistance as standard.
