MG Motor & Honda Report Massive Decline In November 2021 Sales

Indian car manufacturers continuously facing shortage of semiconductor chips, which severely constrained the production levels. Most of the automakers reported negative sales in the month of November, except for Tata Motors and Nissan. Honda Cars India and MG Motor India have also reported massive decline in sales in November 2021.

MG Motor India has sold 2481 units in November 2021 as against 4163 units in the same month last year. In a statement, MG Motor India said, “enduring the industry challenges of global semiconductor chip shortage, which has severely constrained the production levels, MG Motor is continuously working towards delivering to customers their much-awaited MG cars on time.”

MG Motor is current selling Astor, Hector, ZS EV and the Gloster SUVs in the Indian market. The company said that it is working towards fulfilling its promise and delivering the first batch of 5,000 Astor within 2021.

Honda has registered a monthly domestic sales of 5,457 units in November 2021 as against 9,990 units in the same month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales decline of 45.38 percent. The company also exported a total of 1,447 units in the last month.

Commenting on Nov’21 sales performance, Mr. Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President and Director-Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd said, “Despite consistent demand in the market, supply-side issues owing to the global chip shortage remain a concern. The company had to resort to non-production days in November’21 because of the same. We have been selling our entire production stock during the last few months and making all efforts to meet the market demand as much as possible.”
