Mercedes-Benz EQG Concept Makes India Debut – All Key Details

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the EQG all-electric SUV concept in India, along with launching the updated GLA and AMG GLE 53 Coupe at an event in Delhi. The German luxury automaker has confirmed that the production-ready version of the EQG will hit Indian roads, likely towards the end of this year. The showcased model closely resembles the concept, retaining its distinctive boxy stance, although some changes may be implemented to align with the brand’s new EQ models.

Examining the concept, the EQG features a solid panel with a 3D star pattern and illuminated trim elements at the front, replacing the traditional grille. It is equipped with bespoke 22-inch aluminum wheels and a roof rack with an LED strip. The electric SUV is built on a ladder-style chassis, similar to the G-Class, and features independent suspension at the front and a rigid rear axle, enhancing its off-road capabilities.

Regarding specifications, Mercedes-Benz states that the EQG will have a quad-motor powertrain, as seen in its concept. The vehicle will be equipped with a battery claiming “enormous pulling power and controllability,” along with four wheel-mounted motors that can be controlled individually. Transmission duties will be handled by a two-speed gearbox offering low-range and high-range gearing.

The EQG is claimed to surpass the AMG G63 in terms of power and speed. Notably, the electric SUV will feature a G-Turn function, allowing the electric motors to turn the wheels in opposite directions, enabling the vehicle to perform a 360-degree tank turn on the spot. This function can be activated by a dashboard-mounted button, and the driver can control the left or right turn via paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

In other updates, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed nine new product launches for this year. The plan includes the sixth-generation E-Class, Maybach EQS, new GLC Coupe, AMG GT, new CLE, and GLB facelift.
