Upcoming Toyota Hybrid SUVs
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is set to introduce a new generation of the Toyota Fortuner, expected to go on sale in 2024. The all-new Fortuner is anticipated to feature a 2.8L turbo diesel engine coupled with a 48V mild hybrid system, enhancing both performance and fuel efficiency. Additionally, Toyota plans to introduce a 7-seater SUV based on the Corolla Cross, powered by a 2.0L petrol engine with strong hybrid technology. However, this model is expected to take another 2-3 years before hitting the market.
Upcoming Maruti Hybrid SUV
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a three-row SUV based on the Grand Vitara. Built on Suzuki’s global C platform, this SUV will offer two hybrid powertrain options—a 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and a 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid. While there is no official confirmation regarding the launch timeline.
Upcoming Volkswagen Hybrid SUV
Volkswagen is considering the introduction of the Tayron 7-seater SUV in India, as indicated by media reports. This model will be based on the MQB-EV platform and is planned to be assembled in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit. The expected launch date for the Tayron in India is early 2025. Volkswagen’s entry into the Indian hybrid SUV market is expected to provide consumers with yet another eco-friendly SUV option.
