Maruti Suzuki Releases New Teaser; Hinting at New Jimny Off-Roader

Maruti Suzuki has released multiple teasers on NEXA social media pages. The new teasers suggest the new Jimny mini off-roader, which was speculated to be launched in 2022. It is expected that the company could bring the 3-door version of the Suzuki Jimny mini off-roader.

It was speculated that Maruti Suzuki will introduce the 5-door Jimny in the country in 2022. A new teaser suggests that the company could first launch the 3-door model in the next few months, while the 5-dor model will arrive in 2022.

Suzuki JImny Teased

The India-spec Suzuki Jimny off-roader is most likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that also powers the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 101bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 130Nm at 4,000rpm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.

For people not in the know, Maruti Suzuki has started local assembly for the new Jimny 3-door mini off-roader for export markets. The company aims to produce 1,200-1,500 units of the 3-door Jimny per month. The 3-door model was cancelled for our market; owing to its high cost. It was speculated that Suzuki has started working on a 5-door version of the Jimny.

The new 5-door Suzuki Jimny LWB will be based on the Sierra, and will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase. The length of the SUV will be increased by 300mm, and with increased wheelbase, the SUV will offer more space inside the cabin. Leaked documents reveal that the new Jimny LWB will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height. The SUV will have a wheelbase of 2,550mm, while the ground clearance stands at 210mm. It will have a kerb weight of 1190kg, which is 100kgs higher than the 3-door Sierra.

The new Suzuki Jimny is likely to be positioned against the likes of the Force Gurkha and the Mahindra Thar. The 3-door Thar has received an overwhelming response from buyers, and currently accounts for more than 75,000 bookings. It currently commands a waiting period of 12 months.
