Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Toyota – Car Sales January 2021

Due to rising demand in personal vehicles, auto sector had witness an impressive double-digit growth at 18 percent in December 2020. This trend continues in January, 2021, as automakers have registered positive growth. The rise in demand for personal cars instead of shared mobility, and introduction of new cars have helped passenger vehicles in India to record positive growth.

Hyundai – 24% Growth

Hyundai Motor India Limited recorded 60,105 units of total sales in January 2021. The company sold 52,005 units in domestic market, whuich is 23.8 percent higher than the same month last year. The company had delivered around 42,000 in January 2020. The company exported 8,100 units, which is 19 percent less compared to the 10,000 units in January 2020.

Hyundai will aim to further boost sales by adding multiple new cars including a 7-seater version of the Creta and a new micro SUV, codenamed AX1. Hyundai is also developing a new 7-seater MPV for the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki has revealed that it recorded 1,60,752 units in January 2021 as against 1,54,123 units during the same period in 2020. The company recorded Year-on-Year volume growth of 4.3 percent. The company sold 1,42,604 units in domestic market, which is just 0.2% higher than the same month last year. The domestic passenger vehicle sales declined by 0.6% to 1,39,002 from 1,39,844 units in the same month last year.

The entry-level segment (Alto, S-Presso) recorded negative growth of 2.8%, while the Compact segment (WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire & Tour S) declined by 8.8%. The Ciaz sales increased by 6.3%, while the UV segment witnessed an impressive growth of 45.1%. The company sold 23,887 units in UV segment (Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, XL6 & Vitara Brezza) as against 16,460 units in the same period last year.

Toyota – 92% Growth

Japanese automaker, Toyota sold a total of 11,126 units in January 2021 as against 5,084 units during the same period last year. The company recorded an impressive Year-On-Year sales growth of 92 percent. The company had launched the new Fortuner facelift in January 2021.
