Mahindra Thar Loses Out On Some Features – What Are These?

Mahindra & Mahindra has removed some features from the Thar SUV model lineup in the country. The reason behind this decision is said to the cost cutting. The off-road SUV is now available with a single USB charge placed in the front. Earlier, there were two USB ports. It also misses out on the lumber support for the front seats and silver finish on the front and rear bumpers. The Mahindra Thar gets new CEAT Crossdrive AT tyres replacing the old CEAT Czar AT units. No other changes have been made to the SUV.

The LX trim of the Mahindra Thar continues to come with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the smartphone connectivity, steering mounted controls, a multi-info display in instrument cluster, roof mounted speakers, power adjustable ORVM, 8-way adjustable front seats including height and lumbar adjust, fabric upholstery, cruise control, hill start and descent assist, Isofix child seat mounts, electronic stability program, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.

The off-road SUV comes with the 152bhp, 2.0L turbo petrol and 132bhp, 2.2L diesel engine otpions. Both motors can be had with the 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. It gets 4X4 system as standard along with a manual-shift transfer case with a low ratio. The new Mahindra Thar has been in high-demand ever since its launch. Currently, it commands a waiting period of over 1 years in select metro cities. Its average wating period is around 8-10 months.

In other updates, the home-grown automaker is planning to bring in 5-door Mahindra Thar sometime next year. Here, it will be positioned against the upcoming 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny and 5-door Force Gurkha. The 5-door Thar will have extra space for the rear seat passengers and luggage area to offer. It will be longer than the standard Thar. Engine setup of the 5-door Thar will be similar to the regular model.
