5-Door Mahindra Thar.e Concept Unveiled – Features Explained

Mahindra & Mahindra has captured the spotlight with significant revelations at its grand #Futurescape showcase in South Africa. The event has witnessed the unveiling of the cutting-edge OJA tractor range, accompanied by the introduction of the Global Pik Up (based on the Scorpio N SUV) and the intriguing 5-door Thar.e concepts. The Mahindra Thar.e concept stands on the specialized INGLO-P1 platform, meticulously designed for an extended range through a blend of lightweight construction and expanded battery capacity.

This electric SUV concept boasts a prolonged wheelbase, spanning from 2776mm to 2976mm, thoughtfully paired with reduced overhangs. Enhancing its prowess, the vehicle exhibits augmented tire diameter and ground clearance, standing at an impressive 300mm. Mahindra asserts that the 5-door Thar.e will redefine off-road capability, outperforming rivals in aspects like approach angle, departure angle, ramp-over angle, and water wading ability.

The design language of the electric iteration takes a distinctive departure from its internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered counterpart. Evident design elements include a squared-off front with a retro-styled stance, a rectangular grille, a newly-designed prominent front bumper, and a compact windshield reminiscent of the Hummer. The vehicle features two square LED DRL signatures, a flat roof, and a side profile that accentuates its massive wheels and off-road tires. The rear boasts LED taillamps, a blacked-out profile, and a tailgate seamlessly integrating the spare wheel.

Notably, both the 3-door and 5-door Mahindra Thar electric models share a common rear powertrain and battery configuration. The automaker has strategically chosen BYD, one of the largest Chinese electric manufacturers, as the source for Blade and Prismatic cells. Expectations for the SUV include a 4WD (four-wheel drive) system, with dual motors adorning each axle.

Leading the pack is the Mahindra XUV.e8, the electric iteration of the XUV700, slated for a road debut in December 2024. The subsequent releases include the XUV.e9 in April 2025, BE.05 in October 2025, and BE.07 in April 2026.
