Mahindra Scorpio Beats Hector, Harrier/Safari In March 2023 Sales

Mahindra had launched the new Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classic in our market in 2022. The new models have received an overwhelming response from buyers, as they command a waiting period of up to 20 months. In the month of March 2023, the new Scorpio twins have managed to beat all the SUVs in the mid-sized category including the XUV700, Hector twins, Harrier, Safari and Alcazar. 

Mahindra had sold 8,788 combined units of the Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classic in the month of March 2023 as against 6,061 units in the same month last year. The Scorpio nameplate has reported a year-on-year sales growth of 44.99 per cent. The SUV has also reported a month-on-month sales growth of 26.45 percent. 

Mahindra Scorpio Classic Launch Date

The Mahindra XUV700 is at the second place with 5,107 units sold in the month of March 2023. It reported a negative YoY sales growth of 15.45 percent. MG Motor India sold 4,105 units of the Hector and Hector Plus in the month of March 2023 as against 2,019 units in the same month last year. Tata Motors sold 2,561 units of the Harrier and 1,890 units of the Safari in March 2023. The Hyundai Alcazar reported a total sales of 2,519 units last month. 

Engine Options

The Mahindra Scorpio N is available with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The diesel engine offers two states of tunes – 132bhp/300Nm and 175bhp & 370Nm (MT)/400Nm (AT). The petrol engine produces 203bhp and 370Nm (MT)/380Nm (AT) of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The higher diesel variants are exclusively available with a 4WD drivetrain system.

Powering the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is a 2.2-litre Gen 2 mHawk turbo diesel engine that produces 132bhp and 300Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine is claimed to be 55kgs lighter than the previous unit, which makes it 14 percent more fuel efficient.
