Prices of the locally-assembled 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class have been announced today. Its entry-level S 350d variant has been made available at Rs 1.57 crore and the top-end S 450 model costs Rs 1.62 lakh (all, ex-showroom India). Just so you know, the new-generation Mercedes S-Class was introduced as fully imported model in June 2021. Its S 400d and S 450 variants were priced at Rs 2.1 crore and Rs 2.19 crore respectively. Compared to the CBU units, the Made-in-India models are around Rs 60 lakh and Rs 55 lakh more affordable respectively.
Minor changes have been made to locally-assembled 2021 Mercedes S-Class. One of the most noticeable updates comes in the form of the revised front and rear bumpers and the newly-designed 19-inch alloy wheels instead of the 20-inch wheels with low profile tyres. Inside, the new model gets Car-to-Xtec feature that said to be a social network for cars. No other design and feature changes have been made to the Made-in-India model.
Some of its key features include a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Mercedes MBUX system (NTG7), a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a premium Burmester 4D surround sound system, a 64-colour active ambient lighting, massaging seats up front, a bench style seat with electric adjustment, rear seat entertainment touchscreens, Macchiato Beige and Sienna Brown nappa leather upholstery options and more.
Under the hood, the new 2021 Mercedes S-Class employs OM656, 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine that’s good enough for 286bhp and 600Nm. The new oil burner comes as a replacement to the S 400d that returns power worth 330bhp and 700Nm of torque. The petrol engine, however, will continue to be the same in-line 6-cylinder, turbocharged unit that pushes out a peak power of 367bhp and 500Nm of torque. Both engines are available with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and Mercedes’ 4matic 4WD (all-wheel drive system).
