Kia Motors has finally launched the much-awaited new Sonet sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market. The new model is aggressively priced at Rs 6.71 lakh for the base model and Rs 11.99 lakh for the top-end variant. The SUV has been receiving an excellent response from buyers as the booking numbers have crossed 25,000 mark. The company further claims that the Kia Sonet has received over 1K bookings per day.
The compact SUV commands a waiting period of up to 6 months, depending upon the variant you opt. The higher-spec Sonet variants are in high-demand. The top-spec GTX+ automatic variants are more popular. The SUV is available in two trim levels – Tech Line and Sportier GT Line.
In terms of proportions, the new Kia Sonet is 3,995mm long, 1,790mm wide and 1,647mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,500Nm. The SUV has a ground clearance of 211mm, while boot space stands at 392-litres. The new model directly rivals the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
The Kia Sonet is available in 3 engine options – a 118bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol, a 82bhp, 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel with two states of tunes – 99bhp/240Nm and 113bhp/250Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual (1.2L NA petrol), a 6-speed manual (1.5L diesel), a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (1.5L diesel), a 6-speed iMT (1.0L petrol) and a 7-speed DCT (1.0L Petrol).
The Sonet 1.2L is claimed to return a fuel economy of 18.4kmpl, while the 1.0L engine with iMT and DCT returns 18.2kmpl and 18.3kmpl respectively. The Sonet’s diesel returns 19mpl (AT) and 24.1kmpl (MT). Key features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, UVO connected car technology, front ventilated seats, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic AC, Smart Pure Air Purifier with virus protection, wireless phone charging, ABS with EBD, VSM, a tyre-pressure monitor, ESC, HAC and brake assist.
