The South Korean automaker is ready to bring in its fourth product in India in early 2022. Speculations are on rife that it will be a compact 7-seater MPV to challenge dominance of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. In fact, the company recently trademarked Kia Carens nameplate in India that’s likely to be used for the upcoming model. The model is currently in its testing phase and spotted testing a number of times in the country. The latest spy video shows a heavily camouflaged prototype of the vehicle.
The new Kia MPV will share its platform, design elements and features with the Seltos SUV. Design of the model will be similar to the Seltos till B-pillar, but it will carry a wider rear quarter glass and overhangs. Its wraparound headlamps and LED DRLs seem borrowed from the Sonet subcompact SUV. It will feature Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille with chrome highlights and wide airdams at the front end. Other key elements will include newly-designed LED fog lamp assembly, 5-spoke alloy wheels, a floating roof and taillamps with LED inserts.

If reports are to be believed, the upcoming Kia Carens MPV will be the first car in its category to provide access to the third row seats through an electronic button. The model will come with the 7-seats layout and features such as Kia’s UVO connected car technology, an electric sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity, separate AC controls and curtains for the second row occupants and ambient lighting.
Engine setup of the new Kia Carens is likely to be sourced from the Seltos. The compact MPV might be offered with the 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. While the former is good enough for 159bhp and 191Nm, the latter generates power worth 115bhp and 250Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit.
