It is no secret that Jeep is developing an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, which will be launched in India in 2022-23. The new compact SUV will be the brand’s smallest offering globally, which will be positioned against the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and others. To be positioned below the Renegade, the Jeep compact SUV is expected to share styling cues from bigger SUVs including the Compass and the Cherokee.
Here’s a new rendering from digital artist Kleber Silva, which shows the possible design of the upcoming Jeep compact SUV. The render shows that the SUV will have front-inspired by Grand Wagoneer, while the rear profile is inspired by the Compass. The SUV won’t be based on the Small-Wide platform, which underpins the Renegade and the Compass.
The company could also benefit from FCA and PSA Groupe merger, as Jeep can use the smaller and modular platforms of the Peugeot group. The sub-4 meter SUV from Jeep is expected to be based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform), which also underpins the Peugeot 208. This platform will also underpin the new locally developed Citroen products including the C21 compact SUV, premium hatchback and the all-new sedan.
The upcoming Jeep compact SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be tuned to offer power output worth 130bhp and 150bhp. The SUV could also receive a diesel engine, depending on the market situation. Both manual and automatic version will be on offer. It could be the smallest and the only SUV in its category to offer AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) system in India.
The Jeep compact SUV will be produced at FCA’s Ranjangaon based plant, which currently produces the Compass. This plant will also serve as production hub for the new Jeep small SUV. Jeep will also produce the new 7-seater SUV based on the Compass platform at this plant from the end of 2021 or early 2022. Adding to it, the local assembly of Wrangler and Cherokee will also start from 2021-22.
