Hyundai Micro SUV India Launch Timeline – Testing Begins

Hyundai Motor India recently introduced the sixth-generation Verna sedan with significant design and feature upgrades. The next big launch from the South Korean automaker will be a micro SUV that’s reported to hit roads during 2023 festive season. Recently, a test mule of the new Hyundai micro SUV (Ai3) was caught on camera with heavy camouflage covering most of its design details. Codenamed Hyundai Ai3, the mini SUV is likely to carry the brand’s new design language and boxy stance.

Design and styling of the new Hyundai micro SUV will be different from the Casper that’s sold in select global markets. It will have differently designed body panels along with the Venue-inspired split-setup headlamps with Hyundai’s new LED DRL, circular fog lamps, alloy wheels and angular taillamps. The lower variants could get the steel wheels. The Hyundai Ai3 will share its platform with the Grand i10 Nios hatchback.

The Ai3 is expected to measure around 3.8 meters in length, thus making it smallest SUV offering from Hyundai in India. That means, it will be smaller than the Hyundai Casper that measures 3595mm in length, 1595mm in width and 1575mm-1605mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2400mm.

Interior details of the new Hyundai micro SUV are still under the wraps. Though, it’s expected to come with a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, a sunroof, rear AC vents and connected car tech.

Engine setup of the new Hyundai Ai3 mini SUV might include a 1.2L petrol engine sourced from the Grand i10 Nios. The motor pushes out a peak power of 83bhp and 113.8Nm of torque. The carmaker might offer it with the CNG fuel option as well. Transmission choices might include a manual and an automatic unit.

Hyundai’s new micro SUV will be the most affordable SUV with expected price range of Rs 6 lakh – Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
