Hyundai Ioniq 6 Electric Sedan Makes India Debut – Key Details

Hyundai has displayed the global Ioniq 6 electric sedan at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023. Not just Ioniq 6, Hyundai has also introduced the new Ioniq 5 electric crossover to public at the 16th edition of Indian Auto Expo. Inspired by Hyundai’s Prophecy EV concept, the new Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan was first debuted in home market in June 2022.

The four-door electric sedan has a targeted estimated driving range of 340 miles or 547km and offers ultra-fast charging that can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. It is the brand’s second model to be based on Hyundai’s exclusive Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that is optimised for dual motors, spacious cabin and high performance. The skateboard architecture is flexible enough to accommodate scalable battery sizes, rear-or all-wheel drive layout, a flat floor for maximum interior space and EV-specific dimensions.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan is designed in a manner to have an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.22. This low drag coefficient is assisted by a low nose, active air flaps, wheel gap reducers, compact wing-inspired spoiler with winglet, slight boattail structure, separation traps on both sides of the rear bumper, full underbody cover, deflectors and reduced wheel-arch gaps.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan comes with flush door handles and cameras instead of conventional outside rear view mirrors. There are more than 700 Parametric Pixels found in the headlamps. It gets pixle-style LED tail-lights, front lower sensors, air vent garnishes, a curved shoulder line. The sedan also has newly designed Hyundai ‘H’ badge at the front and rear. It is offered with 18- or 20-inch machined black wheels.

In terms of proportions, the new Ioniq 6 is 4885mm long, 1880mm wide and 1495mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2950mm. It comes with a modular touchscreen dashboard that integrates a 12.3-inch full-touch infotainment display and 12.3-inch digital cluster under one piece of glass. The sedan has a bridge-type centre console, dual-color ambient lighting, and a four-dot pixel lights on the steering wheel that light up when the voice recognition is activated and indicate chargin status. Similar to the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 electric sedan comes with several components made using sustainable materials.

The Ioniq 6 electric sedan is available with two battery size options – 53kWh and 77kWh.  Single motor RWD set-up comes as standard, while the higher-spec variant comes with dual motor AWD option. The Dual Motor produces 302bhp and 605Nm, while the RWD setup pushes out 228bhp and 350Nm. The RWD version with 53kWh battery offers 429km of range, while the RWD with 77.4kWh offers 614km of range. The AWD version delivers a WLTP certified range of 583km.

The electric sedan can support both 400V and 800V charging infrastructures. With a 350-kW charger, the Hyundai Ioniq 6’s charge can go from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. Customer can achieve over 100km range in just 5 minutes using a 350-kW fast charger. The standard 10.9kW on-board charger completes a full charge in 7 hours and 10 minutes using Level 2 charging.

It also provides an innovative V2L (Vehicle 2 Load) function, which allows customers to charge any electric devices, such as electric bicycles, scooters or camping equipment. This function can even be used to charge a stranded EV. The electric sedan supports Hyundai Digital Key, which allows owners to leave their car key at home and use an iPhone, Apple Watch, or Samsung Galaxy smartphone to lock, unlock and start their vehicle.
