Korean automaker, Hyundai had launched the Alcazar 3-row SUV in the Indian market in 2021. The company has now launched the Alcazar in the South African market, where it is called the Hyundai Grand Creta. The new 3-row SUV is available at a starting price of 449,900 Rand (Approx Rs 23.37 lakh).
The new Hyundai Grand Creta is offered in six- and 7-seat configurations in South Africa. It is around 200mm longer and rides on 150mm longer wheelbase compared to the 5-seater Creta SUV. It has a boot space of 180-litres, which can be extended to 1,670-litres by folding the second and third row seats.
The new Hyundai Grand Creta is based on the same K2 platform that underpins the Creta and the Kia Seltos. The platform has been modified to accommodate longer wheelbase models including the Kia Carens MPV.
The new Grand Creta is powered by a naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Alcazar. This engine churns out 156bhp of power and 191Nm of torque. Similar to the India-spec model, the new 3-row Creta gets a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This engine churns out 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The 3-row SUV is offered in two trims – Executive and Elite. The base trim gets wireless phone charging, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a rearview camera, LED headlamps and new 17-inch wheels. The higher-spec Grand Creta Elite trim comes with larger 18-inch wheels, push-button start, a panoramic sunroof, parking sensors, fold-down trays for the second-row passengers. It also comes with a larger 10.2-inch digital instrument console and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.
For suspension duties, the 3-row SUV gets MacPherson strut at the front and coupled torsion beam axle at the back. The Elite trim also offers 6 drive modes- Snow, Mud, Sand, Eco, Sport and Normal.
