Hyundai Exter Micro SUV Announced – Punch Rival Coming Soon

Hyundai Motor India has announced name of its upcoming micro SUV that will be called Hyundai Exter. It will be the 8th offering from the South Korean automaker in India. The carmaker says that it symbolizes “outdoor, travel and urban lifestyles”, and it “draws inspiration from the natural world around it and reflects an identity that is external and focused on the outside”. While the latest teaser doesn’t show or tease the model, it confirms that the new Hyundai micro SUV will go on sale in coming months (possibly in August 2023). Here, it will be positioned against the Tata Punch.

The new Hyundai Exter will be the smallest and affordable SUV from the South Korean automaker that will sit below the Venue in the company’s product lineup. It’s expected to measure around 3.8 metres in length and underpin the heavily localized platform borrowed from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback.

Official details of the new Exter SUV are still under the wraps. Though, it’s reported to come with the 1.2L petrol engine making 83bhp and 113.8Nm of torque. The carmaker might also offer it with the 1.0L turbo petrol engine. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are expected to be on offer. Read – 3 New Hyundai Creta Rival SUVs Coming Soon

Interior of the new Hyundai Exter SUV could be inspired by the Grand i10 Nios hatchback and Venue subcompact SUV. On the feature front, it might get a touchscreen infotainment system with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, a sunroof, a semi digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents and connected car tech.

As the company has started testing the vehicle, we have seen some of its spy images revealing interesting design details. The new Exter SUV is likely to share some resemblance with the Hyundai Casper mini SUV that’s already on sale in the Indonesian market. It will have Hyundai’s new design language along with the upright and boxy stance. Upfront, there could be circular fog lamps, LED DRLs with ‘H’ pattern, split headlamps and the signature grille. The higher variants might come with alloy wheels.
