Hyundai Bayon Compact SUV Unveiled; Photos, Specs, Interior

The much-anticipated Hyundai Bayon compact SUV has finally made its global debut. The all-new crossover SUV is designed specifically for Europe. Based on the new i20 platform, the Bayon will be Hyundai’s smallest SUV. It will rival the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Ford EcoSport in Europe.

Hyundai Bayon will be sold in markets where Venue is not on sale. The small SUV is claimed to offer a roomy interior and a long list of safety and connectivity features. The Bayon comes equipped with the signature cascading grille, three-part main lights, a horizontal air intake band and a lower skid plate. The LED DRls are placed on top, while the main headlamp is placed lower on the bumper.

The side profile has arrow-shaped C-pillar, strong beltline that runs across the length and strong creases. Black plastic cladding can be seen all-around the body. The rear profile has arrow-shaped lights. There is a thin horizontal line connecting the taillights. The Hyundai Bayon is available with 15-inch steel wheels or 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels. The new model comes with a total of nine exterior colours including a new launch colour – Mangrove Green. An optional two-tone roof in Phantom Black is also available.

The new Hyundai Bayon is offered in two interior colour trims – Full Black, and Dark Grey + Light Grey. The SUV gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The lower variants get an 8-inch display audio system. It comes with LED ambient lighting technology integrated  into the front passenger foot areas, door wells, and front door pull handle areas, as well as the storage area below the centre console. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The SUV gets two USB ports for the front occupants and one for the rear. The SUV also gets a premium Bose sound system. Adding to it, the Bayon also comes with Hyundai’s latest Bluelink connected car technology.

Dimensions

In terms of proportions, the Hyundai Bayon is 4,180mm long, 1,775mm wide and 1,490mm tall. The SUV rides on 2,580mm wheelbase. It offers a luggage carrying capacity of 411-litres. The Bayon offers a ground clearance of up to 183mm.

The new Hyundai Bayon comes equipped with SmartSense safety features such as Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, High Beam Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Rear Occupant Alert, Blind Spot Collision Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Warning.

The Bayon is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid system. This engine offers two states of tunes – 99bhp/175Nm and 118bhp/175Nm. This engine can be coupled with the 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT. The engine offers 3 driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport.
