Hyundai AX Small SUV Caught Testing In Snow

Hyundai is readying an all-new entry-level SUV, codenamed AX, which has been caught testing multiple times in South Korea. The SUV has now been caught during resistance tests in the snow. The SUV has been spotted in production avatar, which further confirms the details about the design and the size.

It has a compact dimensions, which are equivalent to an entry-level hatchback like Hyundai Santro and the Maruti S-Presso. However, it has several rugged styling elements that gives it a SUV-like profile. The new Hyundai AX is reportedly to measure around 3.7 meters to 3.8 meters in length. It will measure closer to the Renault Kwid.

Hyundai AX Snow Testing

The images reveal that the Hyundai AX micro SUV will have straight and square lines, high roof and a large glass area. The rear door handles are mounted on the pillar. It is based on Hyundai’s latest Sensousou Sportiness design philosophy, which we have already seen on bigger Hyundai SUVs including the Venue and the Creta. It features a large cascading grille and split headlamp set-up with LED DRLs on top and main headlamp is placed lower on the bumper.

The new Hyundai AX micro SUV is likely to be based on the K1 platform, which also underpins the Grand i10 Nios. It is reportedly to be powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that also powers the Grand i10 Nios. This engine is capable of producing 82bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The entry-level variant could feature the 1.1-litre petrol engine that produces around 67bhp of power and 100Nm of torque. Transmission choices might include 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.

Hyundai AX Rear Spied

The new Hyundai AX is reportedly to be unveiled in September 2021. The company will start test production of the micro SUV in April. The company aims to produce around 70,000 units annually. It is expected to cost around 8 million to 10 million won, which is around INR 5.30 lakh to INR 6.6 lakh.

Hyundai AX Winter Testing

The small SUV is expected to be launched in the Indian  market in the end of 2021 or early 2022. It will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the upcoming Tata HBX.
