Hero-Harley 350cc & 500cc Bikes – New Details Emerge

Few years back, Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson joined hands to market and sell Harley Davidson bikes in India. On the other hand, Hero gets access to some tech from Harley. We reported earlier that Hero MotoCorp and Harley Davidson will introduce a new range of affordable quarter-litre & middle-weight motorcycles in the country.

A new media report claims that Hero MotoCorp has recently showcased some of its upcoming motorcycles to select individuals, including some dealers. The company presented two motorcycles – one cruiser without any badging or branding. This motorcycle resembled the Harley-Davidson 338R, which is expected to be launched by the American brand in specific markets. A new report claims that the brand wanted feedback on the cruiser’s styling and features.

The second motorcycle was again a non-badged unit, featuring aggressive styling and a single-cylinder engine with many features. Hero MotoCorp & Dealers discussed various price points and competition.

International media report claims that Harley-Davidson and the Chinese Qianjiang JV have received official government permission to start making bikes. These two motorcycles have received type approval, and are internally called the HD350 and HD500. It is reported that the production models will be called the ‘X350’ and ‘X500’.

The smaller capacity motorcycle is expected to use a 338cc twin-based on the 300cc unit used in the Benelli 302S. It could get a larger 353cc version of this engine along with USD front forks, multi-spoked wheels and petal disc brakes. This engine is good for 36bhp; however, the motorcycle will have a kerb weight of around 195kg. The Harley’s approval document reveals that the 350cc bike will have a top speed of around 143kmph.

The higher capacity motorcycle is reportedly to share most of the parts with the Benelli Leoncino 500. The motorcycle’s 500cc engine produces 47bhp and will offer a top speed of around 160kmh. The Harley HD500 will have a kerb weight of 207kg. The motorcycle will share the brakes, suspension setup with the Chinese sibling.
