Five Upcoming Toyota Cars – 4 SUVs, 1 New MPV

After launching the new Hyryder SUV and the Innova Hycross, Toyota is now ready to introduce a wide range of new utility vehicles in the country. The company plans to introduce 4 new SUVs and a new small MPV in India by 2025. Moreover, the Japanese brand will enter into the electric space. In this article, we will bring you a list of the top 5 upcoming Toyota SUVs and MPV in our market in the next couple of years.  

Toyota SUV Coupe

Yaris Cross Details

Toyota has discontinued the Urban Cruiser sub-4 meter SUV from the Indian market. In the sub-compact SUV space, Toyota is ready to introduce a new SUV Coupe in the country in 2023. It will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which is scheduled to be launched in the 2nd half of April 2023. The new model will share some of the styling cues from the global-spec Yaris Cross, which has been spotted multiple times on the Indian roads. It could be called the Toyota Raize or the Raize Space. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 89bhp, 1.2L NA petrol and a 99bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol.

After introducing the Hyryder mid-sized SUV, Toyota is now planning to launch a new 7-seater SUV in our market. The new model will be positioned between the Hyryder and the Fortuner, and will rival the Mahindra XUV700, Jeep Meridian and the Tata Safari. It is reportedly to be based on the Corolla Cross SUV on sale in select international markets. The new SUV will be based on the TNGA-C platform, which also underpins the new Innova Hycross. It is likely to share engine options with the Hycross. It is expected to come with two engine options – a 172bhp, 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 186bhp, 2.0-litre petrol with Toyota’s self charging strong hybrid tech.

Next-gen Toyota Fortuner

Toyota is preparing to launch the next-gen Fortuner, which is expected to be introduced sometime in 2024. The new model will come with all-new styling and upgraded cabin along with a new engine option. It will be based on the new Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture, which underpins the Tundra and the Sequoia and the Land Cruiser SUVs. The new Fortuner will be offered with a new diesel engine with mild hybrid system. It will come with a new 1GD-FTV 2.8L diesel engine with an integrated starter generator. 

Toyota Rumion

The Japanese automaker, Toyota is developing a re-badged version of the Ertiga MPV in our market in 2023. Codenamed D23, the new MPV is already on sale in South Africa as the Toyota Rumion. If media reports are to be believed, the India-spec model will receive more changes compared to the African model. It will be powered by the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder K15C Dualjet engine that produces 103bhp and a peak torque of 136Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Suzuki and Toyota JV is working on multiple new electric vehicles for the Indian as well as global markets. The JV is also developing an all-new electric SUV, which will be based on the new skateboard platform (internally known as 27PL). This is basically the low-cost version of the Toyota’s 40PL electric architecture, which underpins the Toyota bZ4X. The new electric SUV is scheduled to be launched sometime in our market by 2025. The new EV will have a 2.7 meters long wheelbase and is likely to come with a bigger battery pack. The new Toyota electric SUV is likely to feature a 60kWh battery pack, which is likely to offer a range of over 500kms. The new model could also get an AWD system.
