Creta, Verna & Seltos To Get 160PS, 1.5L Turbo Petrol Engine

Hyundai has officially revealed that the new-gen Verna sedan will soon receive a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 160PS of power & 253Nm of torque. Not just Verna, the new 1500cc turbo petrol engine will also power the new Creta and Kia Seltos facelift.

Hyundai has already discontinued the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, which was offered with the Creta, Seltos and Carens. This engine won’t be upgraded to meet the BS6 Stage 2 or RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms. It is capable of producing 140PS and 242Nm of torque. The new 1.5L powertrain offers 19PS more power and 11Nm higher torque compared to the 1.4L engine. Moreover, the new powertrain betters the VW’s 1.5L TSI engine by 9PS and 3Nm.

In the international markets, the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine is offered with 48V mild-hybrid tech. However, the India-spec unit won’t be offered with a mild hybrid tech. Transmission choice will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The new Verna will also be made available with a 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine produces 115PS and 145Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a IVT or CVT.

Hyundai is also preparing the new Creta SUV, which is scheduled to be launched sometime in early 2023. On the other hand, the new Kia Seltos is reportedly to be launched by festive season before Diwali. The new Hyundai Creta will come with significantly revised styling and an upgraded interior along with high-end features.
