Citroen C3, the upcoming compact SUV from the French carmaker, has been leaked online via images of its scale model. It will be the first production-ready Citroen car to roll out under the brand’s C-Cubed programme. Under Citroen’s new product strategy, the new models will have 90% locally produced components and underpin the new CMP (Common Modular Platform).
The final version of the upcoming Citroen compact SUV is likely to be named ‘Citroen C3 Sporty’. It will be placed against the cars like Maruti Vitara Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
Compared to the Europe-spec model that measures 4,145mm in length, the India-bound Citroen C3 will be shorter. The leaked scale model features the signature wide grille, which is flanked by dual-layer, sharply designed headlamps. While the fog lamps, ORVMs and flat roof have contrast Orange accents, the pillars and roof rails are blacked out.
The dual-tone, diamond-cut alloy wheels, squarish wheel arches and black plastic cladding add more to its sporty side appearance. Sporty design bits continue on the rear section. The new Citroen small SUV features dual-tone bumper with black cladding, rectangular LED taillamps and a more upright tailgate with the large signature logo. On the engine front, the new Citroen C3 will offer a 1.2L petrol engine that’s likely to come with the 5-speed manual and a DCT (dual-clutch transmission) automatic gearbox options. Rumour has it that it could be India’s first Flexi-fuel model. It might feature a 1.2L turbo petrol motor with ethanol blends. Its power output is likely to be around 118bhp.
After the Citroen C3 Sporty subcompact SUV, the French carmaker will foray into the premium hatchback segment. Citroen’s new hatch will take on the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Similar to the C3, it will be designed on the CMP platform.
