Citroen C21 Compact SUV Caught Testing Wearing Production Body

French automaker, Citroen is developing its smallest SUV, codenamed C21, which is scheduled to make India debut in the second half of 2021. The new Citroen C21 compact crossover has been caught testing several times in India as well as in select international markets. Citroen’s entry-level SUV has been caught testing wearing production body, which reveals some of the design highlights.

The spy images reveal a camouflaged high-set compact SUV, which looks production ready. The new Citroen C21 compact SUV will be based on the PSA Group’s CMP (Common Modular Platform), which will underpin new range of Citroen Smart City cars. Adding to it, this platform will also underpin the upcoming Jeep sub-4 meter SUV. Citroen is also working on a mid-sized SUV and a mid-sized sedan based on this platform. Adding to it, Citroen will develop a mini electric SUV for the growing markets.

Citroen C21 Winter Testing

The Citroen’s CMP platform is basically the simplified version of the Peugeot’s CMP platform, which underpins the new Peugeot 208 hatchback. The Citroen C21 compact SUV was caught doing cold-weather testing in northern Sweden. The small SUV features the brand’s signature grille, and divided headlamp setup with LED DRLs on top. The ORVMs come with inytegrated blinkers, while the rear has wrap-around tail-lamps.

The Citroen C21 compact SUV is reportedly to be offered with naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines. The naturally-aspirated engine is likely to come with manual gearbox, while the turbocharged unit will get the choice between a manual or an automatic. The SUV is expected to receive 1.2-litre petrol engine in naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions.

The Citroen C21 compact SUV is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2021. The small SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It is estimated to be priced around Rs 7 lakh to Rs 11 lakh.
